Women's basketball to play New Zealand in Asia Cup first round on Saturday...qualify for Olympic Games in quarterfinals

The Korean National Women's Basketball Team, led by head coach Chung Sun-min, will compete in the FIBA Women's Asia Cup in Australia.

The tournament, which runs from June 26-July 2 in Sydney, Australia, will also serve as the Women's Basketball Regional Qualifier for the Paris Olympics. The top four finishers will qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

South Korea, ranked 12th in the world, is in Group A alongside China (2nd), New Zealand (29th) and Lebanon (44th).

The team, which is aiming for a top-four finish, convened at the Jincheon Athletes' Village in North Chungcheong Province in the middle of last month to warm up. 해외안전놀이터 추천

Earlier this month, the team played two away trials against Latvia. Although the team lost both times by large margins, Park Ji-soo (Cheongju KB) was the only consolation for the poor scoring performance.

After completing both domestic and international training, the team departed for Sydney, Australia, on the 22nd through Incheon Airport.

The team will have a final training session to adjust to the jet lag before taking on New Zealand in the first game at 10 a.m. on the 26th.

Korean women's basketball has seen its international competitiveness decline since winning a silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and reaching the quarterfinals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

In the Asia Cup, the team hasn't finished at the top since winning the title in 2007. They reached the final in 2013, but finished runners-up to Japan, and have finished fourth in the last three editions of the tournament.

This year's tournament will be no different, 토토사이트 with teams ranked higher than Korea, including China, Australia (3rd), and Japan (12th).

Korea will be counting on Park Ji-soo, who returned to the national team after a year-long absence due to panic disorder, and Kim Dan-bi (Asan Woori Bank), the reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2022-23 Korean Women's Basketball League (WKBL).

The team also has a good mix of younger players, including Park Ji-hyun, who helped Woori Bank win the title last season, and Lee So-hee and Jin-an, who led the underdog Busan BNK to the runner-up spot.
